Deepawali, which we also call Diwali, is one of the biggest festivals celebrated in India. It symbolizes the victory of light over darkness and good over evil.
The festival of Deepawali is celebrated on the new moon day of the Krishna Paksha of Kartik month. Usually Diwali comes in October or November. On this day, Shri Ram returned to his city – Ayodhya – after defeating Lankapati Ravana. Lord Ram’s return to Ayodhya symbolizes the victory of good over evil.
There is still a lot of confusion among people about the date of Diwali. Some people say that Diwali will be celebrated on 31 October, while some people are saying that Diwali will be celebrated on 1 November. A great discussion is going on today in Jaipur among scholars and astrologers regarding the determination of the date of Diwali.
Diwali is one of the most important festivals celebrated in India. Every year, this festival is celebrated with special joy and celebration not only in India but also in Indian communities around the world. The word “Deepavali” means “a series of lamps”. This word is formed by combining “deep” and “avali” which are derived from Sanskrit language words.
This festival is celebrated with great pomp and joy. Houses are decorated with beautiful rangolis, bright lights and diyas. Families get together and share sweets and snacks, exchange gifts and blessings.
The major rituals of Diwali include worshipping Goddess Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth and prosperity. People clean and decorate their homes so that they can welcome Goddess Lakshmi. Fireworks light up the night sky, creating a magical atmosphere.
While celebrating this happy occasion, let us try to spread love and positivity amongst all. Diwali is not just a time for celebration; it is also a reminder to help the needy and cherish our loved ones.
