Draupadi and Lord Krishna

One of the most famous story  of Raksha Bandhan cames from the Mahabharata. There is a a time when Lord Krishna injured his fingerand Devi Draupadi( the wife of the Pandavas) tore a piece from her sari and tied it around Krishna’s wound to stop the bleeding. And for this reason God Krishna vowed to her and protected her .

Then After some times, when Draupadi was being publicly humiliated By Kauravas and was on the verge of being disrobed,Then  Lord Krishna miraculously extended her sari to an unending length and  saving her from shame. This event is often cited as the truest essence of Raksha Bandhan — protection given in return for love.

Indra and Indrani

Another story from our  Bhavishya Purana involves the battle between gods and demons. God Indradev, the king of the gods, was facing defeat at the hands of the demon king Bali. Distressed, his wife Indrani (or Sachi) prepared a sacred thread empowered with sacred mantras and tied it on Indra’s wrist. This thread gave Indra strength and courage to defeat the demon and reclaim his kingdom. This ancient version of the rakhi wasn’t necessarily between siblings, but it symbolized protection and divine power.

Yama And Yamuna

One another story is, the river goddess Yamuna tied a rakhi on her brother Yama, the god of death. Moved by her gesture, Yama granted her immortality and declared that any brother who gets a rakhi tied by his sister  and offers her gifts and protection would be blessed with long life and prosperity.
